If I meet a nice guy on facebook and we talk through the phone should I be worried he could be a sex offender?

I am in college and he says he is my age. He sounds like he is my age and we have just maintained a friend relationship, but some of his answers do not match up. He wants to meet and I am just scared he might abduct me. Do many teens or young adults struggle with this?
